Ideas and Opinions
I was happened to discuss about war and media, with another friend of mine, Samitha Sumanthri Senanayake at facebook. It was my useless status quip, "Chamitha Rathnayake is anticipating, sadistically, the annihiliation of terrorists..." which made us the platform to discuss this issue there. It is right to say I was slightly startled seeing even girls do think seriously of those issues...
Post #1 by Samitha:
The annihilation is something that must be done, but I wish there was more regret in human massacre I wish there was less sadism especially in the media.
Post #2 by me:
Well, well,well, much of what Sri Lankans heard on media and experienced in everyday life for last 26 years or so were killings, brutality and sadism. So there's no way they cud not bear it for another 2 or 3 weeks. Isn't it?
To my mind it's far better to make a dreadful blow and finish it off rather than dragging for decaeds. Anyway it's a matter of time now. Hopefully, our boys would finish it off in d near future. Cheers!
We may regret for carnage, later some time when nothing called 'terrorism' evades the poor Lankan life:D
Post #3 by Samitha:
All hopes are on our heroes, and what they're doing is something perhaps we can never be grateful enough for.
What I meant was, the reaction of ordinary people. We have lived seeing sadism, but we Sri Lankans are above being sadists ourselves. But dont you think leaving regret completely behind and rejoycing will make us look like sadists?We must pray for our soldiers, cheer because it gives them strength, but I feel that we must regret as well, that is something no country ever seems to do and something I have faith Sri Lankans are capable of. Regret for carnage, regret for war will only fortify the peace that our soldiers will win for us. By showing how human we are even though we have not been treated that way, we can ensure a lasting peace, it's heartening to see the example the soldiers are setting at the camps, I just think that we have to be extra sensitive at this point.
Post #4 by me:
Wow! What a great thought Samitha! It's really the good of you:-) But there's a little complicated aspect in your argument. How can we actually clap a soldier killing his (and our) enemy while regretting for the carnage that he does? Well, my point is this. You have to do this in a twofold way. First, Shoot down all the terrorists(That means masscare, the big word) Second, Regret for the carnage that WAS done and not let it happen again.
When we go to the root of this problem, we see that it all happened due to foolish decisions of politicians in past. In counter, a very small gang headed by a blood thirsty leader took arms against them and turned out to be a terrorist group. But the people who are engaged in fighting today were not involved in its bigining i any kind of way. Now this is a global terrorist problem and not an ethnic pronlem. So terrorism shold be treated in a language tht it can comprehend. Thats all.Terrorism should be eradicated from the land by all means and rest shd be done thereafter. It's enough people i this coutr suffered die to this menace. People in the past did tolerate it like you Samitha, and found that it's really not what it seems. The humanitarian aspect of this problem is the second prority. So lets get together and help our boys finish it off.
Post #5 by Samitha:
Well actually I think we can show our regret in the way we clap. I agree, This is not an ethnic problem, innocent people of all races are being punished for the madness of a few. This war I understand is between us and the terrorist, that's clear. But we cannot forget that there have always been ethnic connections, drawn by people who have their own selfish reasons, and people have been affected by it, especially with a lot of encouragement from foreign media. This is why we should be careful about the way we clap, if we want to create a united Sri Lanka. In one instance on a public level, I wont say where, I heard an account of the war that was very true, but I was shocked by the constant reference to race. Similarly is it necessary to gloat over terrorist bodies? Or light crackers when there are so many funerals in our country everyday? How do we not let it happen again? Shouldn't it be by ensuring everyone that we care for all of them in the same way?You and I know that this is against terrorist but we should make that clear. Some people just cross the line.I know practically you have to act in two steps but we have to send out the right message, dont we? And that is something that must be done simultaneously. This is something that has been bothering me for sometime, it has been good discussing this with you Chamitha, thank you for listening!:)
Post #6 by me:
Yes Samitha, your account on this matter is very true. We have to send the right message to the society and the international community, that we do not genocide, but cick off the terrorism which haunted us for decades, from this land. True, there are a lot of sadist acts going out today and war driven medai seems flourishing in this environment. It isn't a good inclination considering the humanitarian aspect of life, and international image of country. It is really insane to raise racial issues in this juncture and give birth to another Black July. What chauvinism could do to the society is not help it prevent terror, but lay seeds to take place more in the future. I comprehensively agree with you, to that point. Looking back to the first thing that you pointed out that if it is better media had less sadism, to my mind, specifically those war reports on TV channels such as Rupavahini, Swarnavahini & Derana do render a single benefit to the society. That is that it sets right the opinion of local people to a favovable one for the forces do their job. Thank to them, I think there is virtually no single person today vehemently opposing the military power to eradicate terrorism. Sadism was not new to the media since the start of this war. With no exeption of that day, 22nd April 2000, the day in which 1657 Sri Lankan soldiers were KILLED in hands of those people, Sri Lankans experienced what brutality really means. Terrorists used their communicating capablities to the maximum by which they created a consensus that LTTE is virtually unbeatable terrorist organization. They used incidents like what i mentioned above tell the world their supiriority. In that way, they were highly successful, and rarely anone Sri Lankan even believed that we COULD defeat them, until a great commander took the office and showed what Sri Lankan boys & girls could do. But without a proper coverage of incidents in media, i dnt think they could keep the momentum and general belief of the society, that they are WINNING this war. If so, it could've made wide range of disagreements in society, what even could've halted the progress of forces. That is my opinion Samitha. I know it is not good to boast above the bodies of slain people. And i think this process should be stopped immediately. And think it WILL be stopped immedaitely. Cuz there won't be terrorists, above whose bodies we could celebrate. We shall hope this dark phase of our country will be finished as soon as possible:-D
And yes Samitha, I too am so glad that we could discuss a diabolical issue like this. And eager to hear you as well:-)
This is another discussion with her, about her status message called "fear, pride, prejudice... cover so much of who we truly are"
Post#1 by me:
And hunger, and thirst...
Post#2 by Samitha:
Hunger and thirst?
Post#3 by me:
Yeh..people live thank to 'em.aren't they all what we are living for? I mean, what we study, what we do, what we earn are just to feed this 6 feet body. I got a news, only by now, dad of a best of best friend of mine has caught up by a heart attack and admitted to the ICU. That uncle is an engineer.But what to do? Did his position prevent him from the heart attack?hmm..this body is nothing bt shit.*sigh*
Post#4 by Samitha:
I'm sorry about your friends' dad. I hope he recovers soon.
I suppose everything we do, earn and so on is to stay alive and also to be happy. If people thought that way they wouldn't go mad competeing and think that getting to the top is all they were born for! Our own bodies will function against what we want. Ironic isn't it? We do everything to keep this body going and in the end when we dont want to leave behind the "everything" the body refuses to comply!
Nothing we do will prevent the end from coming but what we do will make our lives worthwhile, make sure that we haven't lived in vain.
The body maybe useless, but then again the body is not all that we live for, is it?
Post#5 by Shamindri:
Anithya menehi karannna.....It helps a lot....But never get angry with the body ,develop pity towards it....And try to live along with it..Keep it healthy....Do not think of bodily pain as a suffering....observe and accept....:)
Post#6 by Samitha:
Yes, that's very true.
Post#7 by me:
You both are correct. & you may know him Sham. It's Sameera(Pitawala). He was on fb for some time.
& yes Samitha. Truly ironic it is. We weep on occassions that life gives us sorrow and pain and even think deeply of 'em and come to profound conclusions. Bt become unable to work on 'em or try something to get rid of those sorrows as the memories of sorrows are taken away by occassional and temporary respites or fortunes that the same damn life renderes us. What da hell!!!
Well, for what we live for (body or not) is a tough Q. It seems that we live for many other purposes at a glance. But to my mind, it is all what we do in our entire lives. My grandma is 87 years old and what does she inherits today?A withered off body and all the goodness collected in her life. I donno Samitha. The idea may seem rude. But it's only one from a bunch of rude ideas i've gotten;)
Post#8 by Samitha:
Your idea isn't rude, you just sound bitter:) We all feel bitter about life at some points, and like you said we do nothing about it. And I suppose ultimately the fact that nothing is ours is the truth, that we know but harldy ever accept. The only solloution is to commit ourselves to the Dhamma. But its hard to completely renounce everything while you're still a laymen. So the best we can do is to live by the Dhamma with the knowlede of the truth of our body like Shamindri said, that way we wont just grope in the dark, at least we'll know where we're going. But while we still have to live , we have to live for something, right? And you said it yourself
" All the goodness collected in her life." Isn't that worth a lot for her and for everyone around her?
Post#9 by me:
Hmm.. Yes, that's the only thing that we collect in our lives, that is carried to the next. I'm glad that u grabbed the word 'Dhamma', here Sumi. If there weren't things distracting our mind and inner perception, we have had a much lesser problems in life. "Maara duuthikawo" are nothing but them which cover up our intelligence and lead to pretty unnecessary and trivial things.
Glad that u listened my rude ideas and give more insight on them. It's absolutely rare that ppl who stand up and speak on topics like these. & that is exactly why the society is such a shallow place. Thank you again:)
Post#10 by Samitha:
Yes, people should definitely talk more about the things that really matter. But talking is easy, it's practising that's very hard. Thank you too;)

Thank you too;)
Game Designing
This is my first game designed and developed through C. Rapid progress! Ha ha... Check out guys!
#include"stdio.h"
#include "stdlib.h"
#include "ctype.h"
#include "time.h"
#define limit 10
int main()
{
int k,num,guess,i=0,c=0;
double y;
char ch,a;
printf("THIS IS A SIMPLE GUESS GAME DEVEOPED BY CHAMMA\n\n");
printf("In this game, you get 3 chances to guess a number predefined by the computer\n");
printf("You have to enter a number between 0 and 9, inclusive\n");
printf("If you were able to guess it correctly, inside those 3 chances, YOU WIN!\n\n");
for(;;)
{
srand(time(NULL));
num=rand()%limit;
i++;
printf("GAME # %d:\n\n",i);
for(k=3;k>0;k--)
{
printf("You have %d guess%s left\n",k,k==1 ? "":"es");
printf("Enter your guess:");
scanf("%d",&guess);
getchar();
if(guess==num)
{
c++;
printf("BRAVO, YOU WIN!!!\n");
goto P;
}
else if(guess!=num && (k==3 || k==2))
printf("\nWrong guess. Try again\n");
else
{
printf("Damn, you lose the game %d\n",i);
printf("Number that chosen was %d!\n",num);

}
}
P:
printf("\nIf you wish to continue to another game, press Enter\n");
printf("If you wish to quit and go to the summary, press X\n");
ch=getchar();

break;
}
printf("Results summary:\n");

Dealing With Complex Numbers
Complex numbers was my favourite lesson of GCE A/L Mathematics, although I horribly screwed up the question under it, during the A/L examinaion. I was startled by finding out that calculations of complex numbers can be done with C programming. Here is my first complex number program.
#include "stdio.h"
#include "complex.h"
#include "stdlib.h"
int main()
{
double x1,x2,y1,y2;
char x[3],w[3],y[3],k[3];
printf("This is a complex number program\n");
printf("Enter your numbers in x+iy format\n\n");
printf("Enter real part of the #1, RZ1 :");
gets(x);
x1=atof(x);
printf("Enter imaginary part of the #1, IZ1 :");
gets(w);
y1=atof(w);
printf("\nZ1= %.2f+%.2fi\n\n",x1,y1);
double complex z1=x1 + y1*I;
printf("Enter real part of the #2, RZ2 :");
gets(y);
x2=atof(y);
printf("Enter imaginary part of the #2, IZ2 :");
gets(k);
y2=atof(k);
printf("\nZ2= %.2f+%.2fi\n\n",x2,y2);
double complex z2=x2 + y2*I;
double complex sum=z1+z2;
printf("Sum of the numbers(Z1+Z2) :%7.2f%+5.2fi\n",creal(sum),cimag(sum));
double complex dif=z1-z2;
printf("Difference of the numbers(Z1-Z2) :%7.2f%+5.2fi\n",creal(dif),cimag(dif));
double complex pro=z1*z2;
printf("Product of the numbers(Z1XZ2) :%7.2f%+5.2fi\n",creal(pro),cimag(pro));
double complex quo=z1/z2;
printf("Quotient of the numbers(Z1/Z2) :%7.2f%+5.2fi\n",creal(quo),cimag(quo));
double complex con1=conj(z1);
double complex con2=conj(z2);
printf("Conjugate of Z1:%7.2f%+5.2fi\nConjugate of Z2:%7.2f%+5.2fi\n\n",creal(con1)
,cimag(con1),creal(con2),cimag(con2));
printf("(Z1+Z2)(Z1-Z2) =%.2f%+.2fi\n",creal(sum*dif),cimag(sum*dif));
printf("(x1+iy1)(x1-iy1)=x1%c+y1%c= %.2f%+.2fi\n",253,253,creal(z1*con1),cimag(z1*con1));
printf("(x2+iy2)(x2-iy2)=x2%c+y2%c= %.2f%+.2fi\n",253,253,creal(z2*con2),cimag(z2*con2));
getchar();
return 0;

My First Serious Program
I've been programming in C for about a month. It's only by now I have started serious programming. This is my first serious program in C. It's a simple calculator. I'm waiting to upgrade it in the days to come as my C knowledge improves. Till then, enjoy it!:D
#include "stdio.h"
#include "stdlib.h"
#define Y 1
int main()
{
char num[5],name[10],ch;
int dst,i;
double one,two,add,sub,multi,div;
printf("***THIS IS THE BASIC CALCULATOR PROGRAM CREATED BY CHAMMA***\n");
printf("All Rights Reserved ® Chamitha Rathnayake\n");
printf("Enter the user's name:");
gets(name);
for(i=0;i=Y;i++)
{
printf("Specify your intended #1:");
gets(num);
one=atof(num);
printf("Specify your intended #2:");
gets(num);
two=atof(num);
printf("If you want to perform addition only, enter #1\n");
printf("If you want to perform substraction only, enter #2\n");
printf("If you want to perform multiplication only, enter #3\n");
printf("If you want to perform division only, enter #4\n");
printf("If you want to perform all-in-one, enter #5\n");
gets(num);
dst=atoi(num);
printf("Press Enter to continue to the result...\n");
getchar();
printf("%s's calculator derives the following result:\n",name);
if(dst==1)
{
add=one+two;
printf("Addition of the numbers you entered is:%lf\n",add);
}
if(dst==2)
{
sub=one-two;
printf("Substraction of the numbers you entered is:%lf\n",sub);
}
if(dst==3)
{
multi=one*two;
printf("Multiplication of the numbers you entered is:%lf\n",multi);
}
if(dst==4)
{
div=one/two;
printf("Division of the numbers you entered is:%lf\n",div);
}
if(dst==5)
{
add=one+two;
printf("Addition of the numbers you entered is:%lf\n",add);
sub=one-two;
printf("Substraction of the numbers you entered is:%lf\n",sub);
multi=one*two;
printf("Multiplication of the numbers you entered is:%lf\n",multi);
div=one/two;
printf("Division of the numbers you entered is:%lf\n",div);
}
printf("That is the end of a silly program.\n");
printf("One more thing! Press Enter to continue...\n");
getchar();
printf("I love you %s!\n",name);
getchar();
printf("Press Enter to go to the begining\n");
printf("Press 'X' and then 'Enter' to exit\n");
ch=getchar();
fflush(stdin);
if(ch=='X' or ch=='x')
{
break;
}
}
printf("Thanks for using this calculator\n");
printf("Promote FOSS,the Free and Open Source Software\n");
printf("Bye!\n");
getchar();
return(0);
}
